Loisaida is a performance piece in which the artist will prepare the popular side dish, Tostones. She will forego the use of a press and will make the dish entirely by hand, representing the struggles that many immigrants experienced as they began to settle in the Alphabet City neighborhood. She will then offer the food to the public as an act of solidarity and as an affirmation of immigration.
