RealCoinz

RealCoinz is a performance in which the artist appropriates the viewer’s legal currency coins as raw material, and gifts the resulting art objects back to the viewer. The artist polishes the coins to a high-gloss jewelry finish and stamps them with his personal logo, thus claiming them as his own. In this simple gesture he obscures the identity of raw materials and collaboration, questions the value of art as a commodity, and highlights physical currency as simply a place marker of an accord in a time in which monetary value is increasingly abstract.
