Sounding the City
Sounding the City is a series of site-specific installations that explore the act of melding the urban soundscape with precomposed musical compositions. These compositions blend with the soundscape and blur the perceptual lines of what is natural and what is inserted into the environment. STC encourages both conscious and subconscious listening. Whether the listener suspects the presence of a musical composition or encounters the piece unknowingly, a focused/selective listening is employed. The composition transcends the genuine sound source by creating an auditory illusion that it is part of the natural soundscape, therefore transcending the listener’s experience of the space.
